I liked it cause Luffy mourned the loss of his brother and was in denial for so long, Jimbei literally beat some sense into him and guided him towards acceptance and that he still has people he can rely on

basically dadan is ace's mother, she raised ace as her own child, and knew ace and luffy more than garp do, she knows how close luffy and ace...

I felt so satisfied when Dandan punched garp, luffy's grandpa, he totally deserved it. He was barely there for them and stood by while the navy savagely attacked his boys. What is the point of being a hero to his people but a coward to his family. I understand standing by your principles, but not if it lets you watch strangers save your family while you stand back...

While I agree whole-heartedly, even before Ace's execution, the three of them had known it was going to be this way.
When Ace and Luffy were kids, Garp tried to convince them to become marines, but to no avail. Therefore, they grew up knowing they'll have to face their grandpa sooner or later, accepting their contrary ideals would put them against him.

Their bloodline wouldn't allow them to become Marine soldiers anyways - even if they did, once it would come out, they would have to give their lives up or become pirates anyways.
Haven't you seen how every person Ace asked about the possible existence of Roger's kid reacted? How the Marines wanted to murder pregnant women and newborn babies just because of rumors?
Luffy perhaps might've made it, simply because his grandpa is a considered "Hero", but once people would hear, lots would wish upon his death also. Plus if my (step)brother was killed by a Celestial Dragon guarded by Marines, I wouldn't want anything to do with that organization either.

Very well put, Garp maybe a hero amongst his criminal friends but he is a complete failure in personal life

Garp grew up like that so maybe he thought living in conditions like that and facing the class difference and reality of the world will give them strong sense of justice. Maybe he actually had a different approach with Dragon and he didn't turn out the way he wanted which is why now ke keeps Coby around him and is probably trying to fix his past mistakes. Just my interpretation

What do you think will happen when u a law enforcement officer (honorable one at that) and ur offspring choose to become a criminal? The fact that he close his eyes and let Luffy go thru is his way of saving Ace already.

I wanted Ace or Luffy to call Dadan mom so bad before leaving, I thought there will he scene where she gives him those neck beads

The one who suffered a big loss were Luffy, garp and dadan 😶😶😶 garp might have fulfilled his duty as Marine but failed as guardian and grandpa 😌😌

This episode hurts the most out of all those one piece episodes. I couldn't control when Luffy started remembering his friends and counted on his fingers. For God's sake can someone send the other straw hats to Luffy😭😭

Its just like Doflamingo said."winners claim justice" which is what happened.They lose Whitebeard,a father and a great pirate, and Ace,Luffy has to overcome all of this while he under the impression tht he couldnt protect his friends.Garp aswell,has to suffer the loss of a grandson,couldnt move due to his duty as a vice-admiral,but he got angry enough to kill Sakazuki

Wow, i only realize it now.. when shanks said its okay to run away, its okay to cry i remember sabaody arc when luffy said "focus on running away" that was cool of him when he knows when to run

I'm at work and not supposed to cry like that dammit! Hate to say this but I think Ace's death was necessary. Luffy wouldn't have known what loss feels like and he wouldn't feel the need to grow strong enough to protect his friends.
But still this hurts no less. Bring Luffy's friends to him he needs them. He needs a hug.

I didn't shed a single tear since one piece started...not even in Aces deat..... but....... this episode and dadan's reaction made me cry like a baby for the first time in my life.
